Stuff on the Equipment Rack

The Room Itself

The Walls:  Each part of this
room has Georgia-Pacific sound board behind the sheetrock, as well as a layer of
R-11 Fiberglass Insulation.  The Room also features 12 AWG Speaker Wire for
7 channel surround sound and even a subwoofer jack, all using AR wall plates
except the one with RCA connectors, that one is available at
Parts Express, and connected with
Banana Plugs. The size of the sheetrock is not 1/2'', but rather 5/8''.

Stuff on the Equipment Rack

Rack:  Bell'O AVS-4205

Television: JVC AV-27D502 (27'' with s-video and
component inputs)

Receiver/Amplifier: Technics SA-DX940 (100 Watts
x 5 channels; 3 optical inputs; Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, and DTS
decoders; even though it's very inexpensive, it's made very well and does what
it's supposed to do well)

DVD Player:  Pionner DV-440 (single disc)

CD Player:  Technics SL-MC4 (61 CD Changer,
I'm currently looking for a replacement)

VCR:  JVC S3911U (S-VHS, and yes the
difference is noticable if you use the S-Video in when you record)

Satellite:  Echostar/Dish Network 4900
(that's the one with the Dolby Digital Out, the only Dishnetwork Receiver made
with DD that doesn't have the PVR feature, sort of like the kind DirecTV has)

Speakers

Main:  Acoustic Research AR 11
(got a great deal on them at
Accessories4Less
because their discontinued, although I don't see why)

Rear Surrounds:  JBL N24
Series I (a 2 way speaker, they have a nice 4'' low frequency driver, and a high
frequency tweeter, which I see as a good thing, because I enjoy a little bass in
my surrounds, it adds more of an effect, and you can also depend less on your
subwoofer to provide any low's, but then again, that's my opinion)

Center:  N Center (Does what it's supposed
to do, what more could you ask?)

Subwoofer:  JBL PB12 (CURRENTLY BROKEN,
fuse keeps burning out inside the amp--I took it apart, even if I replace
it, it still happens, JBL wants for a new one, they can kiss my a** until
they redesign the amplifier not to do that, or offer a free replacement for
those of us whose manufacturer's warranty already expired; apparently it's a
common problem)

Cables, Wires, Interconnects, Etc.

Composite Interconnects:  I
use all Acoustic Research Interconnects (they're inexpensive, and they're pretty
good quality, and get a tight grip on the contact.  I also tried a new
company, American Terminal Supply, you can get their stuff at
Accessories4Less, but I haven't
been impressed with it's shielding, because I live very close to a radio tower
broadcasting the AM radio station, "Radio Disney," and I always hear that over
that input.

S-Video:  Acoustic Research

Component Interconnect:  IXOS
Silver series

Digital Interconnects:
Acoustic Research

Speaker Wire:  UL listed,
In-wall 12 AWG (I used it everywhere, not just inside the wall)

  • I personally ran all the wire, mounted the gang
boxes in the wall before the sheetrock, and after the sheetrock I installed the
wall plates on my own, due to the fact that electricians are very expensive in
NYC, and this way I saved a bundle :)

  • I used AR Wall Plates which are available at, you
    guessed it, Accessories4Less

Remote Control

  • Sony RM-AV2100 (It's got a touch screen, which is
cool, but you leave finger prints on it every time you touch it)

Computer

PC:  Intel Pentium 4 1.8 ghz
overclocked to 2.2 ghz with the stock fan on an Asus P4B266-C Motherboard; 512
MB PC2100 Mushkin RAM; Visiontek GeForce 4 Ti4600; Lite On CD Burner 40x12x48;
Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Soundcard; Linksys NIC

Monitor:  Mitsubishi-NEC NX85
LCD (I use the DVI connector instead of the analog, and yes it does make a
difference in spite of what some people say)

Speakers:  Cambridge
Soundworks Sub w/2 N24s

  • Sima A/V Component Select SVS-14:  I can
switch between using the sound I have for my computer and my main sound system
    and headphone

Keyboard & Mouse:  Microsoft
Wireless Optical Desktop

Printer:  Hewlett Packard
Photosmart P1000

USB:  Belkin USB 4 port hub
